Occupational Therapists at DPS work with 3PK-2nd grade students in a variety of ways! 

  • Fine motor skills: Grasping school utensils such as pencils, crayons, and markers. Managing fasteners such as buttons and zippers. Manipulating toys. 

 

 

  • Visual motor skills: Forming shapes, writing, copying from the board, drawing, coloring, illustrating, scissors skills. 

   

 

  • Visual perceptual skills: Matching, sorting, scanning the environment, letter formation within writing space. 

 

 

  • Sensory Function: Take in, adapt,  and respond to sights, sounds, body position,  movement, touch, and taste.

             

 

  • Task modifications or adaptive equipment: Flexible seating, pencil grips, noise reducing headphones, etc.
